Glassology by Libbey Design Contest, on the way to the finals

Six Finalists, six new glass designs, only one will be the winner!

After months of researching, sketching and brainstorming, The Glassology design contest ap-proaches its grand finals. In this Global bartender competition it’s not the drink, but the glass as an essential ingredient of the whole drinking experience that is the focal point of the contest. The jury of this unique competition will pick a winner on May 28th during Perfect Serve Bar Show in Amsterdam. The six finalists representing United Kingdom, Belgium and Latvia compete to have their glass design taken into production.

Glassology Design Contest started in October 2017, with up to 388 professionals from 50 different countries participating. The contest passed by different stages over an exciting period of seven months. In the search for a unique drinking experience, the jury of the Glassology by Libbey design contest judged every admission based on a combination of design and concept, as well as Libbey’s values: functionality, originality and durability.

6 Final designs
Six glass designs made by the Glassologists representing three European countries met these crite-ria. We talk about 6 totally new glass designs that remit us to the sensorial experiences, nature ele-ments and the magnetism of the unknown. It goes from an elegant coupe to geometrical and fitting ice balls stemware, as well as detailed and distinctive DOF. We have it all!

The Finalists
United Kingdom is represented by Pedro Ribeiro, cocktail waiter at Nightjar, Kenji Jesse, consultant at Nomu Consult, Lewis Perry, managing director at the Curious Cat and Thomas Ryan, bartender at Doctor Ink’s Curiosities. From Latvia comes Mihails Minckovskis, brand ambassador for 1883 Mai-son Routin and Yochen Verbeeck, bartender at Cocktails at Nine takes the stand for Belgium.

The winner of this competition will earn global recognition, as the winning glass design will be taken into production to be sold all over the globe by Libbey. The winner also has the honour to name the glass, will receive 250 pieces of the winning design, will be one of the members of the jury in the next Glassology Design Contest and will act as the Glassology Ambassador at the renowned Tales of the Cocktail in New Orleans.
